(July 28, 2020) - The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) today released a legislative audit of the Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB), a stautory board that is supported by staff in the Colorado Department of Public Safety’s Division of Criminal Justice.
The audit recommended five primary areas for improvement:
(June 8, 2020) - Local victims’ services programs, justice organizations, and law enforcement can now begin accessing $5.5 million in 2018 and 2019 federal grants that they have been waiting for due to restrictions that the Trump Administration had placed on the grant funding.
In 2018, the State of Colorado was awarded $2.7 million in federal funding for public safety through a program known as the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. In 2019, Colorado was awarded $2.8 million of these funds.
(Jan. 27, 2020) - The Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ) Office of Research and Statistics has published its fifth annual Report of Officer Involved Shootings in Colorado pursuant to Senate Bill 15-217.
The report documents findings based on officer-involved shootings that occurred during a nine-and-a-half-year period between Jan. 1, 2010, and June 30, 2019.

(Feb. 7, 2019) - The Office for Victims Programs (OVP) within the Division of Criminal Justice has announced a new, $2 million grant program to help Colorado non-profits access legal resources to help them address identified, specific legal issues related to crime victimization.
(Nov. 14, 2018) - Gov. John Hickenlooper today praised the Improving Outcomes for Youth Statewide Task Force for developing policy recommendations that, if passed into law by state legislators, would strengthen the juvenile justice system, increase public safety, and lead to better outcomes for youth who come in contact with the juvenile justice system.
