Current Events in Crime Victim Services

September 25th is the National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims. Robert and Charlotte Hullinger, of Cincinnati, formed Parents of Murdered Children following the 1978 murder of their 19-year-old daughter, Lisa, while she was studying in Germany. The annual day of observance is on the date Lisa was murdered.

During The National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims advocates and community members commemorate murder victims and surviving family members. The day also honors the work of organizations that provide services, including support, advocacy, and counseling for families, individuals and communities coping with homicide-related deaths.

The Office for Victims of Crime is hosting a virtual 15th Virtual National Town Hall: The Impact of Mass Violence Incidents on Family Survivors of Homicide Victims & Resources to Assist Them on September 25, 2025, 3:00 pm – 4:30 PM eastern time. This National Town Hall honors this annual remembrance by presenting information and resources that address the important needs of family survivors of victims killed in mass violence incidents. Crime Victims Fund Update

VOCA Funding Factsheets by Colorado County and Statewide

In an effort to illustrate how Federal VOCA cuts might impact various programs and counties within the state, the OVP staff have created one page factsheets that provide data on the current programs funded by county, the number of victims served, the number of services provided, and the top three reported victimizations. There is also an information sheet for those agencies that provide statewide services. If you have any questions regarding VOCA or the information sheets you can contact OVP staff at cvsgrants@state.co.us.
