Location: Hilton Garden Inn Denver Downtown, 1400 Welton St, Denver, CO 80202

SIM is a framework designed to help address the needs of individuals with mental health and substance use disorder who come into contact with the criminal justice system. The SIM is a practical model that maps out six points in the criminal justice system ranging from community services to community corrections, to find the critical moments for intercepting individuals with behavioral health needs and routing them to services, preventing further criminal justice system involvement. The model is widely used as a strategic tool for policymakers and criminal justice planners.

“This collaboration brings together diverse stakeholders to discuss challenges, align strategies, and coordinate resources.,” said Matthew Lunn, director of the Division of Criminal Justice. “Our goal is to continue providing resources to agencies and ultimately leading to more effective diversion programs, reduced recidivism, and improved outcomes for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.
