The Crime Victim Rights Act is to ensure that victims of crime are honored and protected by law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and judges in a manner no less vigorous than the protection afforded to criminal defendants.
Under the Constitution of the State of Colorado, victims of a crime have the right to be made aware of "critical stages" in the criminal justice process, including the right to be heard, when relevant.
