The State Victim Assistance and Law Enforcement
The State VALE program is funded by 11.7% of the total fees collected by each of the 22 Local VALE programs, some funds of which are funded through a competitive grant application process.
What Does State VALE Fund?
State VALE funds Colorado criminal justice agencies that help to implement the Victim Rights Act and organizations whose projects help implement or coordinate statewide or multi-jurisdictional victim programs and services. Possible programs and services include the provision of services, training programs, training, additional personnel, and equipment and operating expenses related to victim assistance and notification programs.
Is My Organization Eligible?
According to state statute (C.R.S. 24-33.5-506), seven (7) state agencies that are statutorily mandated to implement the Victim Rights Act (VRA) statewide, do not have to participate in the competitive grant application process to receive funds. The remaining balance of the spending authority each fiscal year is awarded through a competitive grant process to victim services projects designed to have a statewide or multi-jurisdictional impact or model projects that can demonstrate success and a plan for statewide replication.
Remaining State VALE grant dollars (e.g. those not used in the non-competitive process) are awarded through a consolidated crime victim service (CVS) funding process as reviewed by the Crime Victim Services Advisory Board.
When Are Funds Awarded?
State VALE funding is typically announced annually in the fall, and award notifications typically occur annually in the Spring. For more information, including how to apply, go to the DCJ Grants page.
